Chetan Mahajan

Chetan Mahajan is a Senior Executive who loves the mountains, the outdoors, and motorcycles. His life has been a combination of many of these things. As a management trainee he rode his motorcycle across the northern Himalayas, including through terrorism-torn Kashmir. More recently, he ran a full marathon in Ladakh. He has lived, hiked, run, and biked across the US and also India.

Of his 20 odd years in corporate life, the bulk has been in the Education industry, specifically working in the area of technology in education. In this space, he has done his share of experimentation by way of two separate start-ups. He also writes and speaks at various events and fora in this space.

In December 2012, Chetan Mahajan found himself in a tricky situation when he was arrested and jailed in a case against his employer. Chetan turned this grim scenario into an opportunity by writing a book inside the jail. The outcome was “The Bad Boys of Bokaro Jail” which was published by Penguin in Feb 2014. A true story, The Bad Boys of Bokaro Jail is making waves in media and business circles alike.

Of late Chetan has been speaking extensively at Business Schools, Corporations, and also at Literary Events. When he talks it is about a wide variety of things. It could be his many passions - like running, or education, or motorcycling or it could be about staying positive in jail. It could be about the experience of running inside the tiny jail compound. Or about writing a book while in Jail. It could also be about crisis management, or about ethics in Indian corporations. And don’t even get him started on education in India!

Chetan is now the President of HCL Learning Ltd. He holds two MBAs – one from Punjab University, and another from the Kellogg School of Management. He lives in Gurgaon with his wife and two children.
